It will be an extremely tight winter ahead for all of us but here at Henri Taylor we want to help our customers as much as possible with our hints and tips on how to run your heating and hot water more efficiently so in the long run you are getting the most out of your system efficiently.
1. Turn down the thermostat!
Many customers fall into the habit of blasting up the temperature on their thermostat but reports from the Energy Saving Trust show that if you turn it down by just 1 centigrade it could potentially save a typical household up to £90 per year. Go check yours now!
2. Learn how to use the timer controls on your thermostat
Most modern thermostats now have timer controls so you can dictate when your system comes on. So you can ensure your heating doesn’t come on when you are out at work or on holiday and you can set a routine to compliment your own routine.
3. Use your thermostat remotely
Find out if your thermostat is one that can be used remotely on your smart device. Meaning you can control your system even when you are not at home, that way you can check your heating/ hot water isn’t coming on when you are out.
4. Bleed your radiators
It is very important to ensure you bleed your radiators regularly to ensure you don’t get too much air in them which will cause them to not heat up properly or take longer too. Bleeding radiators is a very simple task you can do yourself and there are plenty of YouTube tutorials showing how to do this. Also consider the age of your radiators. Radiators have improved vastly over the last 5 years so you may want to consider upgrading a few around the house for more newer, energy efficient ones.
5. Fit individual thermostats on radiators
Individual thermostats are a great way of controlling what rooms in the house get heated up, so if you have a spare bedroom or a room that doesn’t get used regularly you can dictate if these rooms get heated up.
6. Update your boiler
If your boiler is older than 10 years it may be worth doing some research into replacing it for a newer model. Boilers typically have a lifespan of up to 10 years and anything older than this you may run the risk of parts being discontinued so unable to fix if they do go wrong. 7. Make sure your book your annual boiler service
We can not stress enough how important it is to get your boiler serviced every 12 months to ensure if it running safely and efficiently. Annual services also ensure your guarantee is valid, so if anything was to go wrong it would be covered by the manufacturer.
